How warranty works here
Bicycles and components sold by Bike 88 are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Terms, duration and coverage are set by the manufacturer and vary by brand and product.
Bike 88 does not issue its own separate warranty. What we do is handle the claim for you: we file it, we chase it, and we keep you informed. You do not have to negotiate with a manufacturer on your own.
What is usually covered
Most manufacturers cover defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. That typically means a frame that cracks at a weld without impact, a hub that fails internally, or a component that arrives out of specification.
What is usually not covered
- Normal wear — tires, chains, cassettes, brake pads, bearings, cables, grips and bar tape
- Crash, impact and collision damage
- Damage from improper assembly, over-torqued fasteners or incompatible parts
- Neglected maintenance, including riding a worn drivetrain to failure
- Modification of the product, including repainting or drilling a frame
- Corrosion, cosmetic marks and paint fade
- Use outside the product's intended discipline — a cross-country frame ridden in a bike park, for example
- Commercial use, rental fleets and organized racing, unless the manufacturer explicitly allows it
Most manufacturer warranties cover only the original purchaser and are not transferable if you sell the bike.
Filing a claim
- Email ride@bike88.us with your order number and a description of the failure.
- Include clear photographs: the failure itself, the whole product, and any serial or batch number. For a frame, photograph the serial number under the bottom bracket.
- Tell us how the product was being used when it failed. Be straight with us — manufacturers can usually tell impact damage from a material defect, and an accurate account helps your claim more than a flattering one.
- We submit the claim and keep you updated. Do not discard the product; the manufacturer may require its return for inspection.
Timing
We acknowledge every claim within one business day and submit it to the manufacturer within two. After that, the timeline belongs to the manufacturer — some resolve claims in a week, others take several weeks, particularly where the product must be shipped for inspection.
We will tell you what we are told, including when the news is not good.
Outcomes
Manufacturers typically resolve an approved claim by repairing the product, replacing it with the same or a comparable current model, or offering a credit toward a replacement. The choice is generally the manufacturer's, not ours and not yours.
If a claim is denied and you disagree with the reasoning, tell us. We will ask the manufacturer to review it. We cannot promise to overturn a decision, but we will make the argument.
Crash replacement
Several manufacturers offer discounted crash-replacement pricing on products damaged in an accident, even though the damage is not a warranty matter. Ask us — we will check whether the brand has such a program.
Assembly and maintenance
Bike 88 does not operate a workshop. Bicycles ship partially assembled and require final assembly and safety checks before riding.
We strongly recommend final assembly by a qualified bicycle mechanic. Use a torque wrench on every fastener, particularly with carbon components. Improper assembly is both a safety risk and one of the most common reasons a warranty claim is denied. Keep your assembly receipt.
Recalls
If a product you bought from us is recalled, we will contact you at the email address on the order. Keep your contact details current with us.
